Kalmuri provides one of the most simple means of capturing screen activity, acting as both a snapshot taking utility and a screen recorder. It requires no installation and is ready to go anytime, waiting quietly for your actions in the tray area, so it doesn’t interfere with your work.
Simple window, hidden menu
The application features one small-sized interface that only comprises two drop-down menus. The top one enables you to select the action to perform, while the other helps you choose the output format. At first sight, there are no other available options but if you right-click anywhere within the main window, the main menu is revealed. This menu practically comprises all the application’s options, which we will talk about below.
The menu includes options to set the name of the output files and sound-related settings. You can also use it to set the default screen capturing hotkey and choose the default folder where the resulting images or videos are saved.
Take snapshots of your desktop, screen regions, windows
Kalmuri can capture the entire screen or just a specific region of it, which you can resize freely to match the desired width and height. Moreover, you can configure it to capture the active window or just sections of a window (controls).
There are a few output formats you can choose from. Kalmuri supports some of the most common file types: PNG, JPG, GIF and BMP. Instead of saving the screenshots locally, you can also send them to the clipboard or print them directly on paper. Furthermore, it is possible to upload them online to Imgbox. If you want to take snapshots of a website, note that Kalmuri also comes with a built-in browser that you can use.
Record screen activity to MP4 videos
As mentioned above, Kalmuri is also a screen recorder. To start recording a video, you must select the MP4 option in the second drop-down menu. As with the screenshots, the application can capture the entire screen or just an area of it.
Optionally, it can keep the screen cursor during capture, meaning Kalmuri can be easily used for creating small video tutorials.
An application that requires further development
Kalmuri is a handy screen capturing tool, baring a minimum set of options that makes it worth a try. However, compared to some of its competitors, it comes with a poorer feature set. For instance, it does not allow you to edit the snapshot at all or add it watermarks, features that more some users consider mandatory in such an application.
